Adelle Davis Lead the Nutritional Medicine Movement

By, Dr. Jonathan V. Wright

A True Pioneer

Q: I was very interested to learn that Adelle Davis started you on your path to nutrition and healing.

I was introduced to her ideas of nutrition when I was 24 years old, and I subsequently purchased and read all her books. I have even gone through her cookbook about three times.

When my children were infants I gave them a formula of straight evaporated milk with a bit of brewer’s yeast and blackstrap molasses, and the pediatrician asked what I was feeding my children to make them so healthy. This lifestyle sure has paid off for me: I am 77 years old, my partner is 82, and we have no health problems.

Dr. Wright: Congratulations! As you’ve found, starting with Adelle Davis’ diet and vitamin principles for good health at age 24 is very likely to promote good health and longevity.

For those of you who haven’t heard her name before, Adelle Davis was one of the pioneers of the nutrition movement back in the 1930s and 40s. She was one of the first to believe that many illnesses are caused by specific vitamin, mineral, and nutrient deficiencies. Davis did extensive research and wrote books on how to properly use supplementation to treat various problems in the body.

It was her belief in the freedom of choice in nutrition that led us to the knowledge we have now, which allows us to make informed decisions about our health.
